American Cancer Society sets new goal

J.P. Hughes, M.D., American Cancer Society and Roger Hansen, Colon Cancer Survivor, joined Midday to talk about their new goal of "80% by 2018." The American Cancer Society wants everyone over the age of 50 to be screened, unless they have a history of colon cancer in their family. More than 1,000 groups, including the American Cancer Society and Granite Peaks Gastroenterology, have pledged to work together to increase the nation's colorectal cancer screening rates and embrace the goal of reaching 80% screened for colorectal cancer by 2018. They say if they achieve 80% by 2018, 277,000 cases and 203,000 colorectal cancer deaths would be prevented by 2030. That stands for wanting a screening of 80% of adults aged 50 and older screened for colorectal cancer by 2018.
