Intake of Sugary Soft Drinks by Teenagers May Increase Breast Cancer Risk
Breast cancer charity Breast Cancer Care has set up a new partnership with the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in Northwood to offer free information and support courses for women at the end of their breast cancer treatment. Mags Holloway, Services Development Manager at Breast Cancer Care said: "There are an estimated 691,000 people alive after a diagnosis of breast cancer today in the UK. This course is free of charge, but participants must register in advance by calling Breast Cancer Care on 0345 0771893 or email movingforward@breastcancercare.org.uk The first course, Moving Forward: Living with and beyond breast cancer, at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre will take place on March 8 2017 and will run for four mornings, from 10am - 1pm in the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre. "The need for support doesn't end when treatment finishes — in fact, it is often the time people need us the most.

During 22 years of follow-up, 870 of the women who completed the high school food frequency questionnaire were diagnosed with premenopausal breast cancer and 490 were diagnosed with postmenopausal breast cancer. "Because breast cancer takes many years to arise, we were curious whether such a diet during the early phases of a woman's life is a risk factor for breast cancer," she said. Teenagers who consume a diet low in vegetables and high in sugar-sweetened and diet soft drinks may be at increased risk for premenopausal breast cancer, warns a study. Each woman's diet was given an inflammatory score using a method previously developed that links diet with inflammatory markers in the blood. When the same analysis was done based on early adulthood diet, those in the highest inflammatory score group had a 41 per cent higher risk for premenopausal breast cancer relative to those in the lowest score group.
